What My Worlds Does

Build Worlds Worth Exploring

A home for worldbuilders — novelists, game masters, and designers inventing fictional worlds — covering maps, cultures, histories, and keeping a universe consistent.

🗺️

Maps That Make Sense

Rivers, mountains, and trade routes that obey geography — so readers' mental maps never break.

🏛️

Cultures & Societies

Building peoples with their own values, conflicts, and table manners — beyond one-trait civilizations.

📜

Deep History

Writing the wars, migrations, and ruins that happened before page one — and letting them surface naturally.

🗣️

Names & Languages

Consistent naming rules and just enough invented language to feel real without a dictionary.

📖

The World Bible

One organized document for rules, dates, and facts — the tool that stops book three from contradicting book one.

🎲

Worlds at the Table

Worldbuilding for campaigns: prep that players actually touch, and improvising lore without breaking canon.

How My Worlds Works

Frequently Asked

Where should I start building a world?

Start where your story or campaign actually begins — one town, one conflict, one culture — and build outward only as needed. Worlds built top-down from the cosmology often die before anyone sets foot in them.

How much worldbuilding is too much?

When inventing lore replaces finishing the story or running the game, you've crossed into procrastination with extra steps. The audience sees maybe a tenth of what you know — build the tenth they'll touch first.

How do I keep a growing world consistent?

Keep a world bible from day one: names, dates, distances, and rules in one searchable document, updated the moment you invent something. Retcons are expensive; a five-minute entry is cheap.
